American Insurance Association (AIA) is the leading property and casualty insurance trade organization, representing more than 370 insurers that write more than $77 billion in premiums each year. AIA's roots are over 130 years old and were part of the National Board of Fire Underwriters in 1866. ASPA originally began in 1966 as an actuarial organization however, the growing needs of the pension community led to an expansion to include pension professionals and now ASPA is the only actuarial organization dedicated to only to the pension field. Since 1966 ASPA has grown to over 4,500 members and over 3,300 are designated members while 1,200 are affiliate members; ASPA's members are stretched over the country and Canada, Israel, Mexico and others countries. The Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA) is one of the nations oldest independent agent associations originating in 1896. IIAA has now become a highly recognized consumer advocacy organization in the industry but as well as on Capitol Hill and the media. Founded in 1960, the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) is a primary source of information, analysis and referral concerning insurance for the media, governments, regulatory organizations, universities and the public. With headquarters in New York City, I.I.I. works with print and broadcast media around the country on thousands of stories each year. Utilizing its library and insurance database, the I.I.I. handles more than 6,000 requests for information annually and answers nearly 50,000 questions through the National Insurance Consumer Helpline, a toll free telephone service. The I.I.I. produces consumer information brochures as well as studies and analyses of the property/casualty industry. The I.I.I. is supported by some 275 property/casualty and reinsurance companies. Founded in 1887, the Insurance Library Association of Boston (ILA) provides resources, literature, information services, and professional education to the insurance industry. ILA members enjoy access to a wide variety of insurance services and materials, including contemporary and historical books, pamphlets, articles and reference materials; reports, directories, loose-leaf services and lexicons; laws, treatises and financial rating services; rating and form manuals; and more than 350 trade journals. The ILA's Saval Insurance Education Center offers pre-licensing preparation and continuing education credits for agents and brokers, and program courses for national designations in general insurance, chartered property & casualty underwriter, and associates in risk management, claims, reinsurance, and fidelity & surety bonding.
